Who can give plasma?

All healthy people between the ages of 18 and 65 weighing more than 50 kg are able to donate blood plasma. For those who are donating for the first time, the maximum age is 59.

You can donate plasma once every 14 days at any of our centers. For each donation, you will receive 900 CZK, and you can earn up to 1800 CZK a month.

Whether a potential donor is eligible to give plasma is determined by a doctor, based on the analysis of the person’s medical history and a medical examination.

Can I eat and drink before donating?

You certainly can eat and drink – in fact, you have to.

On the day before and the day of your donation, you need to drink 2-3 liters of fluids each day. Your diet during this time should consist of light and non-fatty foods. It’s good to eat a piece of fruit just before donating.

By all means, do not come to give plasma on an empty stomach; you may not feel well afterwards. For more information, see here.

I want to donate. What do I need to do and how does it happen?

So you’ve decided you want to become a modern-day hero and give blood plasma? We thank you!

Due to European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) measures related to the increased incidence of infectious diseases (including hepatitis B and C, HIV, syphilis), we ask you to first undergo a free laboratory test to confirm that you are a suitable blood plasma donor.

So that you know what to expect, we’ve outlined below what the entire process of your first visit will entail.

  • 1 – Registration

    2 minutes

First, you register by filling in a simple form. Shortly afterwards, we will call you to schedule your first donation.

  • 2 – First visit

    2 minutes

You need to bring your passport (or a similar identity document with a photograph) and your health insurance card. There is nothing else to arrange beforehand.

  • 3 – Completed questionnaire

    3 minutes

At the center, you will fill out a short questionnaire in order to help the doctor become better acquainted with your state of health.

  • 4 – Medical examination

    15 minutes

Before the first donation, each of our donors undergoes a medical examination. The doctor will answer all the questions you may have as a newcomer. You will then undergo a quick examination prior to each donation you make. Thanks to this, you will become better aware of your current health condition.

  • 5 – Plasma donation

    3060 minutes

Provided everything goes well, you will be ready to donate plasma. The donation takes 30-60 minutes. You’ll be able to read, listen to music or simply relax. You can take comfort knowing that our nursing staff will be available to you the entire time. There’s nothing at all to worry about when giving plasma.

  • 6 – Financial compensation

    900 CZK

The sum of 900 CZK* will be waiting for you at reception following your donation. There will often be a gift for you to walk away with as well.

*After the first donation, this compensation is 700 CZK, as the collected plasma cannot be used for subsequent processing after the first donation. However, after the second successful donation, this difference is made up and the donor receives compensation of CZK 1100. Please note that if you do not donate with us for 6 months or more, you are again considered a first-time donor.

Tips for the ideal plasma donation

  • On the day before and the day of your donation, drink lots of fluids, especially water. You should avoid black tea, coffee and alcohol.
  • On the day of the donation, eat light and non-fatty foods. Excess fat in blood plasma makes the plasma unusable.
  • If you are ill or menstruating, please reschedule the appointment.
  • We recommend visiting the toilet before giving plasma.
  • Prior to donating, you need to eat as well as drink. Having a piece of fruit just before donating is ideal.
  • We recommend bringing a book or earphones for listening to music.
